Getting your Plants Tested
Specify that you want them tested for Hosta Virus X.
*ELISA and RT-PCR are the only reliable methods for detecting Hosta virus. There are three labs in the US that have the equipment to do these tests. They are listed below for your convenience if you wish to have your plants tested.

Specify that you want Virus Analysis: ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay)
Shipping instructions: ship samples immediately after collection; collect symptomatic leaves, stems or entire plants; wrap in plastic. It is very important that these samples do not dry out during shipment. Do not add extra water to the bags.
Ship samples by overnight delivery or mail early in the week to insure fast delivery. Plant samples often begin to decompose if left in the post office over the weekend. Submit payment with samples.
Make checks payable to the University of Minnesota. Virus Analysis: ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) and other serological virus test are available. Fees vary depending on the test, minimum $25.
